School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work
The School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work is a dynamic School with a commitment to lifelong learning. With around 180 academic staff who are qualified health and social care professionals and experts in their fields, we are able to offer an excellent education experience. The School has a lively research and scholarly community. The rich knowledge and expertise gained from our research activities helps to inform health and social care practice through the delivery of our wide-ranging education portfolio.
The School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work will be funding two Graduate Teaching Studentships this year.
Research topics/themes
1. Maternal Care
This program of work looks to explore the effects of maternal physical activity this may include examining its impact upon the length of first stage of labour, women’s pain experience, perceived birth satisfaction, or infant condition post delivery.
2. Optimising treatment, recovery and rehabilitation in people living with cardiovascular conditions
This program of work will have an applied health research focus i.e. lead to the generation of new knowledge which can be applied in clinical practice to improve patient outcomes and/or service delivery. Prospective candidates may wish to use qualitative and/or quantitative approaches to guide their inquiry.
Eligibility
Only UK/EU candidates are eligible.
Candidates should have a first or upper second class honours degree or masters degree.

Teaching areas
The GTS will be expected to show an aptitude and enthusiasm for teaching to be able to contribute to the pre and post-registration nursing, midwifery and social work courses delivered throughout the School.
