Jemima Pollitt, BA (Hons) Media and Performance

Studying at MediaCityUK is great. The facilities are brilliant and used by professionals too, including the BBC. I get the opportunity to work on a range of live projects and alongside students from different courses which makes the atmosphere really vibrant and professional. I really enjoy learning at MediaCityUK and it’s given me the confidence to use technology that I’ll be working with when I graduate.

Gemma Cameron, BSc (Hons) Computer Science

I chose Salford because the course has an excellent reputation and fantastic links with industry. I had the opportunity to work for a year as part of my course which really developed my practical skills and ambition to get the job I wanted once I’d graduated. I've had an exciting career taking me all over the country working for a large defence company, a small and modern startup providing SMS, and I now work at as a Principal Software Developer. The passion and drive nurtured at Salford have helped me become a leader in the local digital community, running several key events in the city. I'm now on the Industrial Steering Committee for the Computer Science department at Salford. Here I advise the University on technology and practices being used in industry to aid the development of the Computer Science courses at Salford, ensuring the course continues to provide cutting-edge skills in industry.

Sami France, BA (Hons) Graphic Design

I chose to study at Salford because it was one of my local universities, and the course content, reputation and the facilities were better than other universities in the area. Completing my degree at Salford has helped me to get a job in what I studied, Graphic Design. This is down to hard work and the excellent industry contacts, as well as the tutors understanding how important it is for students to gain industry experience and supporting us every step of the way. This is how I met my employers; they studied the same course at Salford and set up their own business - Design By Day.

Mark Cockroft, BA (Hons) Journalism

From my first week at University, the tutors on my course have been fantastic. I am so grateful for the advice they have provided, and the time they have given up to help me.

As a mature student, I initially struggled to work alongside students that were a few years younger than me, but I feel that I have been able to use my experience to help me on the course. The University is very diverse, with students from all ages and backgrounds.

As part of my course we run a weekly, live news bulletin from MediaCityUK, which has been the best experience for me at Salford. It unleashed a passion in me that I never knew I had, and it has made me more hard working and determined to succeed than ever before. I have no doubts that if I continue to work hard that I can be successful in a job that I love. I would never have been in that position without the University of Salford.

Ian Arnisson-Phillips, BA (Hons) English and Creative Writing

The main reason for studying at Salford was its location. The University had a better aesthetic appeal than all other universities in the North West; which may seem both daft and irrelevant but these are important factors for a budding writer! The surroundings and backdrop to Salford are both traditional and beautiful, which I found very inspiring. Overall, Salford has helped me progress by giving me the tools needed to land my current job and become a director of a copywriting business. Without my degree I would not have the knowledge or experience to be in the position.
