Varsity 2017: A brief introduction
Written by Salford Students' Union:
Approached by Chester University, and already keen to participate in a huge sporting event, Team Salford and Chester University teamed up to create Varsity!
Last year we saw the two universities go head to head for the first time in a total of 20 sports at Chester University and whilst a mere 4 points gave Chester the title, the 22nd of March will see US have the advantage of being on home turf!
This massive sporting event will take place over six locations including Salford Sports Centre, David Lewis Playing Fields, Allerton Campus, Timperley Hockey Club, Sale Riding School and Agecroft Rowing Club, with the first sport set to start at around 10am and the last to finish at approximately 10pm.
On this twelve hour action-packed day we need you to head down and cheer the team on. Last year, around 350 of you made the trip to Chester to support the teams and this time we need you to don your yellow and blue colours again for the much shorter journey to campus. We will also be selling exclusive Varsity T-shirts very soon, which you can buy to get behind the lads and ladies.
On the day, there’s sure to be an energetic atmosphere spread across campus with Shock Radio live all day to keep you entertained and up to date with the all-important score board.
With Softball and Archery being added to the line-up this year, 22 sports have been confirmed for this year’s Varsity, which you can see below. The point system is simple, for every sport won a point is given to the winning team and the team with most points is the winner.
