Top Trio Scoop Prestigious Nursing Sholarship

Three pre-registration MA Nursing students have recently been awarded the prestigious RCN Foundation Margaret Parkinson Scholarship.

The scholarships, with a value of up to £2,500 a year are for graduates with a non-nursing degree who wish to start nurse training. To have three award-winners amongst our students is an incredible success story in itself, but what is particularly unusual is that all of them are in the same personal student group. This clearly demonstrates the high calibre of students who come to Salford to undertake our pre-registration MA programme and the varied backgrounds and experience which they bring to their nurse education.

Their personal tutor Dr Natalie Yates-Bolton explained;

‘‘These three students display such a high level of commitment and motivation to their professional development, They each brought their undergraduate knowledge and differing recent life experiences – as a dancer, a music producer and a sociology graduate to the start of their studies in April this year and now nine months later are making outstanding progress in their development as the nurses and nurse leaders of the future.’’

One of the lucky student recipients, Rebecca Avison said: '' To have such an influential organisation supporting my development and believing in my values and potential is a massive confidence boost. I am very proud and honoured.''

Fellow student Will Fearnley said: '' This scholarship will allow me to visit international state of the art nursing home facilities. I am most grateful to the Royal College of Nursing for seeing the potential in me and to my personal tutor Natalie Yates-Bolton and the University of Salford''

James Ashton added: ''Making the decision to pursue a career in nursing is not one to be taken lightly but the calibre of postgraduate students is outstanding. The extra support from the Royal College of Nursing will relieve some of the external pressures as well as increasing my confidence as a member of the profession.''
