Students provide footage for BBC 'Class of 92' documentary
Have you been watching BBC One's ‘Class of 92’ documentary on five former Manchester United players taking over Salford City FC? Did you know that our students provided a significant amount of the footage used within the documentary?
If not, well this is a great time to catch up with the first episode on BBC iPlayer here, before the second episode airs on BBC One tomorrow night at 9.00pm.
Gary Neville, Philip Nevile, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Nicky Butt took over Salford City FC in March 2015 and the documentary chronicles the highs and lows of owning a football club.
Our students have a fruitful relationship with the club, and recently enjoyed more fantastic success when our students’ footage went viral and made it onto BBC Sport and ITV Granada. The footage was a recording of James Poole’s wonder goal in the 4th Qualifying round of the FA Cup against Southport FC. Watch it below.
The wonder goal meant that Salford City FC reached the FA Cup for the first round ever, and they will now play league two side Notts County on Friday night.
Daniel Willis, a Journalism student, reported from the FA Cup 4th qualifying round and he is now set to report from the club's FA Cup first round game against Notts County. He said: "Reporting on a game of such significance as the FA Cup is not only an honour but a chance to further my abilities. Having the opportunity to work on the FA Cup first round game spikes my enthusiasm to raise my profile even more."
The game will be live on BBC One on Friday at 7.30pm – don’t miss it.
