One World Week to celebrate international culture on campus
‘One World Week’ is when we come together to celebrate the diversity of our staff and student population right here on campus.
Taking place throughout the week of Monday 13 March, this festival will celebrate multiculturalism and the joy we all experience when sharing our individual cultures with people from other backgrounds.
The Students’ Union has partnered with ourselves and the Sports Centre to bring you a bumper week of over 20 events that will help you celebrate all the cultures that are present here in Salford.
Language, sport and of course, food are huge parts of our individual cultures and we will be sharing these things with one another throughout One World Week, hopefully helping you to try something new and learn more about your peers at Salford.
The week’s activities start with a French & Italian language taster – one of many that will be held throughout the week – in Atmosphere Lounge from 12.30pm, before a huge Holi celebration takes place outside of University House from 4pm. Also known as ‘The Festival of Colours’, this jubilant event gives you the chance to run into a sky full of colour and enjoy a cultural fashion show that will be running at the same time.
On Tuesday, there will be an international movie night in Atmosphere from 4.30pm, while on Wednesday there will be a chance for you join us for the launch of our New Faith Centre as well as taste cultural delicacies at the International Food Festival from 12pm on the broadwalk.
The final party of the week takes place at Atmosphere to mark St Patrick’s Day. This Irish festival is hugely popular in the UK and the Students’ Union will be playing some Irish favourites from 12pm, so get involved.
With so much going on throughout this week, we hope you can come along and get involved with as many events as you like. The full programme of events can be viewed below.
