Get involved with life at Salford
Now that #SalfordWelcome is over and lectures have started that doesn’t mean the fun has to stop. There are a lot of things happening - we want you guys to get stuck in, have some fun, and meet even more new people.
Every sport imaginable has a team that you can get involved in with ‘Give Sport A Go’. This programme gives you the chance to attend a sports session for free, without having to commit to anything more than that. Have a look at the sessions you can attend here.
The Students’ Union have also set-up the Intramural Sports Programme. This is a semi-competitive league, set-up using teams from within the University. It’s possible to set-up your own, so why not set-up a team with a group of friends? It’s okay if sport isn’t your thing though, there are debating societies, gaming societies, and plenty of other societies you can get involved with. Check out all the groups and societies here.
The Sports Centre is another way to get involved with life at the University. It’s the place to go, if you wish to keep fit, try out some new activities and make friends. It’s always a busy hub of student activity. If you are unsure about joining the gym then Zumba, Yoga, and a host of other similar sessions are hosted across the week. These classes are great for lighter, more laid back group fitness sessions where you are bound to make friends. For more information about the Sports Centre click here.
Another fantastic thing on offer for all students is the International Café. This runs every Wednesday evening from 5pm-7pm in the Students' Union Activities Space; it’s a nice way to meet people from different cultures. We also provide free tea and coffee for everyone that comes, as well as karaoke and similar fun events.
We know it can be a little tough for International Students who have just moved to the UK, that’s why we have setup InterLINK. InterLINK ‘mentors’ are students from the UK that help you settle into life at Salford. If you’re a UK student and you want to meet International Students then get in touch as well, we’d love to hear from you. The International Society hosts a ton of activities throughout the year. They are open to everyone, so come along and meet people from across the world.
There are also plenty of events hosted by the Students Union, the Library, and ourselves at Student Life, which you can get involved in. There include CV workshops, Wordscope courses, and Enterprise sessions. Click here to see what we have available. Just log in with your University username and password.
