David Lewis Playing Fields added to our sports portfolio
Team Sports are set to come to campus after David Lewis Playing Fields were purchased by the university from Salford City Council.
The four full size pitches face our new on-campus residencies and the Sports Centre hopes the playing fields can add to their sporting offer for students, colleagues and the local community.
The playing fields already have changing facilities consisting of four team rooms with shower facilities, but we plan to add to this with some funds set aside for the facility, which may be spent on pitch improvements, flood lighting, fencing and improved changing rooms.
Director of Estates & IT Services, Stephen Talboys said: "We are delighted to have been able to add this great facility to the Estate given it’s adjacency to our Peel Park Quarter and Sports Centre."
Additionally, The Environment Agency has invested £12M to provide a flood basin on the sports pitches at Castle Irwell Student Village. Works will be completed towards the end of this year and will cut the risk of flooding in the Salford area considerably.
