Student inspired to take convoy to aid refugees in Calais

Second year University student, Shareen Denman will take a convoy to Calais to aid refugees. Her pledge has already seen her gain support from the likes of ITV News and Key 103, and now she needs your support too!

Salford to Calais,' Shareen's fundraising group, has been collecting donations for several weeks now and will be taking this aid to refugees in Calais on Saturday 17 October.

Shareen said: “They need help. I just connected with them. I asked how would I feel if it was me or my family in that situation. It just made me want to do something.”

The outpouring of goodwill has surprised Shareen, she said “We’ve had way more donations than expected; about 5 transit vans full, we only expected one. We’ve had so much stuff, we are sending some to Greece, and Syria.”

If you’d like to help out then the good news is you can. You can do this at a fundraising night on Thursday October 8 in Atmosphere Bar. This will run from 7PM until close and will help raise funds for the convoy to Calais.

If you don’t have the time spare to come along to these events, then you can still donate here

Anything that you can give would be greatly appreciated. Please spread the word, tell your housemates, your classmates, everyone.  Don’t forget to visit ‘Salford to Calais’ on social media:
