Fashion student receives prestigious award in the company of Dame Vivienne Westwood

A third year Fashion: Design student lifted the Sophie Hallette University Design Award in the esteemed company of such leading industry figures as Dame Vivienne Westwood, Jeff Banks and Christopher Bailey.

Anum Rasul received the award from Sophie, the owner of the lace company who supplied Princess Kate Middleton’s wedding dress, after presenting her lace collection at the 25th Graduate Fashion Awards. Check out our gallery below.

Anum has had such star turns as helping to make toiles for Victoria Beckham’s collection while working with designer Jade Kang, but such experience did not prepare her for when her name was called from the stage.

She said: “It was amazing when they called my name out. I was shaking, it feels so good; it’s hard to explain. It will change my life and it will look good on my CV.”

This award continues a fantastic year for the University’s Fashion course, with two students, Karin Human and Emma Lewin, reaching the final of a global competition hosted by denim giants Levi’s and the course itself scooping the WSGN Digital Portfolio Award for the sixth time in seven years.

Anum was one of 18 Salford students presenting their collections at the event held at The Old Truman Brewery within the heart of East London’s Creative Quarter.

Anum now hopes to work in the fashion industry following her graduation this summer.
