campus bus service

Campus bus trial reaches conclusion

This Winter we worked with the Students' Union and you, our students, to trial a pilot campus night bus service.

We worked with Stagecoach to offer a term's worth of trialling, securing you free transport between campuses through the dark winter months to get you through to Spring.

When we started this trial we promised to review the usage of the service to recognise its value to you and if it was the best way we could use our finances to support your student experience.

Now the trial has reached its end, we can report that the service was rarely used by more than 20 students a day, despite there being 13 bus runs daily. As many buses were empty, we have decided that it would not be worthwhile to continue the service.

Student Consultation

As with all decisions, we want to involve you directly in the follow up conversation. You can make your voice heard through focus groups with us, which we will be announcing soon, and of course through your Students' Union. A survey run by an independent company will also gauge opinion among the student body.

Alternative services

We will still continue to provide you with free use of the 50 bus service between Adelphi Street/Oldfield Road and MediaCityUK on production of a valid ID card. Please avoid trying to travel for free outside of those locations as that could result in a fine.

Cycling is another great way of getting around while keeping fit at the same time. There are around 400 spaces to park your bike, in addition to the new cycle hub which recently opened at MediaCityUK.

With our new accommodation central to campus, walking is now much more of an option than it ever used to be. For those travelling to the University, there is still the option of driving and parking at our University car parks or jumping on a train to our conveniently located station Salford Crescent, just a minute walk from campus.
