“It is important that universities and colleges put transparent measures in place which make it safe and as straightforward as possible to report sexual misconduct by staff, with policies and processes that enable an effective response…if there is evidence of suspected systemic breaches or weaknesses in how a higher education provider meets its duty of care towards its students we will not hesitate to take action.” – Office for Students
A report from Revolt Sexual Assault and the Student Room released this year found that 62% of students and graduates had experienced sexual violence including groping, harassment, unwanted touching, coercion and sexual assault, while 8% had said they had been raped. The survey was the first student consultation on the issue in the last decade and interviewed 4,500 students from 153 different British universities.
Join us for Combatting Sexual Harassment in the Higher Education Conference, where our expert speakers will offer insights into the most important issues to support HE institutions in combatting sexual harassment. The programme will first aim to identify national priorities for all higher education institutions, before addressing particular challenges currently facing the sector, including developing strategies to increase reporting, understanding how to embed culture change, supporting victims effectively and working in collaboration. Attending this event, you will have the opportunity to exchange ideas, share best practice and consider how to create a professional, respectful and safe environment for everyone in HE institutions as well as contributing to wider thinking on how to tackle sexual harassment and misconduct effectively.
