About the Role

Overview

Salford professional Development Ltd (SPD) was formed as a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of Salford in 2012 and provides non-accredited learning and commercial focus to the University of Salford. SPD Group has 2 separate business units within it.

SPD focuses on continuous professional development and similar training courses across a range of subjects, preferably but not exclusively, aligned with programmes offered by the University of Salford. It also delivers a number of events and conferences, and is building its international presence in conjunction with the University’s priorities.

UNITEMPS. Since January 2017, Unitemps, a student employment agency has been operating under the SPD umbrella. This reflects a desire to promote further growth in additional Business Units with student facing teaching, learning and development using SPD’s Infrastructure as a foundation for such evolution.

Role Detail

The Conference Producer position is suited to an individual with strong commercial acumen and a passion for creative writing, public affairs and government policy, they will be responsible for creating and delivering a portfolio of successful and commercially viable events, from producing the concept right through to finalising the agenda, speaker line-up and on the day management of clients and speakers.

They will develop strategic relationships with key staff at the university and our network of industry associates, engaging and collaborating with them in order to design, market and promote events that align with our core offering. It is vital they have knowledge and experience in the conference and events industry and work cross- functionally with the sales and marketing departments to continuously improve existing events along with identifying market opportunities.

The successful candidate will have exceptional organisational, research and writing skills with a strong attention to detail. They will be professional, dynamic and able to quickly identify commercial opportunities and industry angles in order to develop new conferences to meet the changing needs of the market. Importantly, they will be a strong communicator with the confidence to build and foster relationships with key strategic partners and stakeholders.

The role is hands on and requires a flexible approach. They will be required to work outside of office hours and travel from time to time.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Conference Producer role is to fulfil the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Develop and project manage a commercially successful portfolio of conferences and briefings
  • Lead on product development and the quality assurance of the events
  • Communicate with new and existing partners, associates and key contacts within the University to develop and maintain strong levels of the business activity.
  • Control and manage a database of approved industry associate facilitators, speakers, and university academics. Regularly engaging with the networking and communicating partnership opportunities.
  • Project manage the event from concept up to the day of delivery
  • Liaise with the University, agencies, public sector organisations, sponsor organisations and SME’s to ensure the right speakers are on our platforms.
  • Negotiate conference speaker rates, content, shape the agendas, timings and ensure it suits every speaker and sponsor need
  • Work cross-functionally to ensure the event meets expectations and hits target within budget
  • Ensure all new programmes, agendas and event copy are developed within timescale to support the marketing and sales process.
  • Provide an excellent client focused approach to dealing with all internal and external stakeholders
  • Prepare and maintain detailed records and accounts of all programme activity.
  • Meet targets of the company, thinking creatively and innovatively to identify new revenue generating opportunities.
  • Troubleshoot day-to-day challenges, presenting solutions
  • CPD Assessments – send applications, update the website for CPD accredited events, follow up post event to confirm CPD status
  • Make suggestions for improving processes to deliver a better service for customers by reviewing, analysing and reporting on customer feedback
  • Take every speaker though right to work in the UK checks prior to engaging them for delivery. Keeping records in a secure place and adhere to data protection regulations
  • Support event co-ordinators with the coordination of the event both pre, post and on the day of event

This role detail is a guide to the work you will initially be required to undertake. It may be changed from time to time to meet changing circumstances. It does not form part of your Contract of Employment.
