Continued professional development (CPD) is fundamental to career progression, helping people to learn new skills, keep up with the changing demands of the workplace and gain valuable qualifications in the process.
With this in mind, Salford Professional Development has been established with the aim of consolidating the University’s expertise in this area, providing a wide selection of courses that have been designed specifically to further the careers of those who study with us.
Salford professional Development Ltd (SPD) was formed as a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of Salford in 2012 and provides non-accredited learning and commercial focus to the University of Salford. SPD Group has 2 separate business units within it.
SPD focuses on continuous professional development and similar training courses across a range of subjects, preferably but not exclusively, aligned with programmes offered by the University of Salford. It also delivers a number of events and conferences, and is building its international presence in conjunction with the University’s priorities.
UNITEMPS. Since January 2017, Unitemps, a student employment agency has been operating under the SPD umbrella. This reflects a desire to promote further growth in additional Business Units with student facing teaching, learning and development using SPD’s Infrastructure as a foundation for such evolution.
The Conference Producer position is suited to an individual with strong commercial acumen and a passion for creative writing, public affairs and government policy, they will be responsible for creating and delivering a portfolio of successful and commercially viable events, from producing the concept right through to finalising the agenda, speaker line-up and on the day management of clients and speakers.
They will develop strategic relationships with key staff at the university and our network of industry associates, engaging and collaborating with them in order to design, market and promote events that align with our core offering. It is vital they have knowledge and experience in the conference and events industry and work cross- functionally with the sales and marketing departments to continuously improve existing events along with identifying market opportunities.
The successful candidate will have exceptional organisational, research and writing skills with a strong attention to detail. They will be professional, dynamic and able to quickly identify commercial opportunities and industry angles in order to develop new conferences to meet the changing needs of the market. Importantly, they will be a strong communicator with the confidence to build and foster relationships with key strategic partners and stakeholders.
The role is hands on and requires a flexible approach. They will be required to work outside of office hours and travel from time to time.

The successful candidate should:

Have a degree in a relevant discipline and/or a business/management qualification
Can demonstrate a successful track record in the delivery of high-quality commercial events and/or training courses
Background & Experience
Demonstrable experience of project management
Have a strong understanding and experience of conference management with a background in events or training. Including pre, post and on the day event co- ordination
Demonstrate a successful track record of delivering targets within agreed timeframes and budgets
Experience in the development of partnerships for commercial initiatives
Demonstrable track record of client and stakeholder management
Experience of developing and delivering commercially viable events
Experience managing budgets
The successful candidate should have demonstrable knowledge of:
The importance of CPD, training and professional development in the workforce
Have in-depth knowledge of current affairs and of UK National and local government structures
Ability to think creatively and generate ideas for content as well as given briefs
Skills & competencies
Proficiency in Word Processing, Spreadsheets and Databases (Microsoft Office)
Be a confident communicator and comfortable operating at all levels
Demonstrate a well organised approach with meticulous attention to detail
Ability to troubleshoot day-to-day challenges and present solutions
Ability to work in pressurised environments and situations
Proficient in taking a concept and producing a commercially viable product
Ability to negotiate with diplomacy and sensitivity to stakeholders
