Course Summary

You can take this course as a stand-alone module as part of your Continuing Professional Development.

This module will explore:

  • Theories of leadership and management
  • Inter-professional education and learning in a practice context
  • Historical, political and social factors affecting health care organisations
  • Role and expectations of leader in contemporary health care
  • Leadership in relation to improved patient and service outcomes
  • Current health care policy
  • Organisation structure, culture and strategic direction
  • Organisations governance strategy and quality initiatives
  • Strategic management concepts and tools

Entry Requirements

Registered nurse.

A graduate or graduate equivalent.

Accreditation for Prior Experiential Learning (APEL)

We welcome applications from students who may not have formal/traditional entry criteria but who have relevant experience or the ability to pursue the course successfully.

The Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) process could help you to make your work and life experience count. The APL process can be used for entry onto courses or to give you exemptions from parts of your course.

Two forms of APL may be used for entry: the Accreditation of Prior Certificated Learning (APCL) or the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL).

English Language Requirements

If English is your second language, you will need to provide evidence of proficiency - IELTS 7.0 band score or above is proof of this.

All applications for post qualifying heath and social care modules are made directly to the University, please complete the appropriate application form and send to the University.


This module is delivered using blended learning.

On completion of this module you will be able to apply what you have learnt, and reflect upon your own leadership style in order to deliver measurable health improvements in complex and changing health and social care environments.
