Postgraduate Taught / Masters

Learning English for Academic Purposes (LEAP) UG and PGT is for undergraduate (Bachelors) students and Postgraduate Taught / Masters Students. It is designed to support English language development through the use of academic language and style in assignments and dissertations. We provide sessions in Academic Reading and Writing and Academic Presentations.

Academic Reading and Writing

This module is designed to give support with sourcing materials, referencing and planning assignments, together with academic writing skills, including grammar, academic vocabulary and how to organise this information for an assessment.

  • Week 4 Cohesion in Academic Writing (w/c 28th October)

  • Week 6 Effective Paraphrasing (w/c 11th November)
  • Week 7 Effective Paraphrasing (w/c 18th November)
  • Week 8 Critical Writing (w/c 25th November)
  • Week 9 Critical Writing (w/c 2nd December)
  • Week 10 Module Summary Session (w/c 9th December)

Academic Presentations

This module is designed to give support with preparing for academic presentations, covering how to create effective presentation slides, what is an effective presentation style and how to structure your academic presentation.

Academic Presentations is a 5 week module commencing in October and will be repeated in November.
