Last week a group of young student chefs visited SALFOOD to find out more about careers in catering.
Students from St Monica’s sixth form in Prestwich spent the day with Simon Spencer (SALFOOD Hospitality Head Chef) and completed a Bread Masterclass whilst Simon kept a close eye on techniques and skills.
The students were then quizzed by Simon who tested their knowledge on allergens, food preparation and handling.
The visit was organised after Patrick Trodden (a former Salford Business School lecturer) contacted us to ask if we would accommodate a site visit for students currently enrolled on Hospitality and Catering. We went one step further and organised a masterclass, quiz and full campus tour of our facilities.
Patrick Trodden, food and wine expert said: "Salfood represents a refreshing and cosmopolitan approach to University hospitality. High quality food reflecting the international mx of staff and students is served in an environment that would not be out of place in the most upmarket retail outlets. They certainly sell the 'sizzle'"
Simon Spencer, Head Chef at Salfood said: “We want to encourage the budding chefs of the next generation to consider a career in catering and hospitality. We are working with the school to organise a work placement for some of the students”.
Tim Priestman, Salfood Director added: “We’re really pleased to be working in partnership with local colleges and have invested heavily in our premises, catering team, menus and hospitality to create a first class experience for our colleagues and students.”
