Course Summary

You can take this course as a single module for continuing professional development or as part of the MSc Leadership and Management for Health Care Practice.

This module will explore:

  • Leadership and management approaches and styles
  • Symbolic interactionism
  • Narrative analysis
  • The looking glass self: transference and counter transference
  • Projective identification and containment
  • Discovery: sub personalities
  • Emotional intelligence and effective leadership
  • Comparison and exploration of the students perspectives of themselves as a leader through discussion and reflective groups (comparison UK and international student perspectives)
  • Skills to identify evidence-based practice and associated critical appraisal of UK and international literature
  • Working with conflict: the anti-group
  • Mentoring/coaching relationships

At the beginning of this module I was unsure what to expect from the 'Me' in Leadership. I was very sceptical with regards to what I would learn as I have previously attended leadership training within my trust. What I did not expect was how much I would learn about myself and the interaction I have with others. The theories and tools that you learn on this module are fantastic, the ability and time to self reflect is priceless. I have learnt skills that I will never forget and would definitely recommend this module to all my colleagues.
