Working with Cultural Diversity Training Course
This one day cultural diversity training course is designed to explore elements of cultural diversity with the aim of providing a foundation for the developing cultural competence of practitioners. The course will define culture and present models which will aide practitioners in their work with people from different cultural backgrounds than their own. There will be an opportunity to explore one’s own cultural identity as this is said to be critical to the achievement of comfort with the cultural identity of others.
The course will work through four levels as follows: cultural awareness, cultural sensitivity, cultural knowledge and cultural competence.

Coffee, Welcome and Introductions
A look at definitions, model and components for culture
A look at working with difference considering our own culture and looking at the issues, concerns and problems that arise when working with people from different cultural backgrounds than our own.
A look at demographics, considering the major ethnic groups and how to apply anti discriminatory and anti oppressive practice
Self assessment and exploration of the skills and knowledge required to be culturally competent.

By the end of this course participants should be able to:
- Understand the components which comprise "culture" and "identity" and how these may be used to promote more effective interventions
- Identify how issues, problems and concerns which may arise when working across cultures might be addressed.
- Recognise their role in acknowledging personal beliefs, cultural differences, boundaries, and the impact of racism.
- Define their own culture and the impact of self on practice situations
