Improving Mental Health Outcomes Conference
“Changing legislation alone isn’t enough to improve the lives of people with mental illness, and the report rightly recognises this. Improving mental health services depends on the right number of well-trained staff and the right resources to meet the needs of patients, their families and carers.”- Professor Wendy Burn, the president of the Royal College of Psychiatrists
What are the implications of the review into the Mental Health Act?
In July 2017, the Department of Health committed £1.3 billion to transform mental health services. The plan sets out measures to increase the mental health workforce in order to treat an extra 1 million additional patients by 2020/21, introduce 24 hour services and provide integrated treatment for mental and physical health.
One of the key challenges the sector faces is the increasing amounts of pressure on services, delays in accessing appropriate care and serious shortages of mental health nurses and psychiatrists. The Improving Mental Health Outcomes Conference will offer practical examples on how to improve patient access to and user experience of services. The conference will also offer the opportunity to discuss and debate workforce strategies which encourage the recruitment and retention of mental health staff.
Delegate feedback from our last Mental Health Conference includes:
“Very engaging event whilst also providing highly knowledgeable speakers”
“This was a great opportunity to meet like-minded professionals and share ideas of best practice”
“This conference gave me a greater understanding of how mental health services can work in a more collaborative way”
The Government has also commissioned an independent review of the 1983 Mental Health Act In order to tackle the “burning injustice of mental illness”. The review will explore how the NHS and other public services deal with people suffering mental health problems. The final report will offer recommendations for change in the law by autumn 2018. Join us for the Improving Mental Health Outcomes Conference 2019 where experts from across the health and social care sector will explain how to improve services and raise standards.
