About the Role

Salford Professional Development (SPD) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of Salford. The company was formed in 2012. The company has 2 business units with an ambitious growth plan for the future. They are:

  • ONECPD – a professional training and conference business which delivers high quality training and development to professionals across the UK and beyond,  
  • Unitemps – a temporary recruitment agency which provides temporary recruitment solutions to the University and other external clients utilising the student population.

The parent organisation, the University of Salford, is led by an Executive Team reporting to the Vice-Chancellor.  

The company is now seeking to strengthen its existing board and as a result have a requirement for two Independent Non-Executive Directors with senior level experience and knowledge of one or more key areas; Finance, HR, Recruitment or CPD

The annual time commitment of the non-executive director is four half-day board meetings, two half-day remuneration committee meetings, pre Board & Rem com preparation via circulated board papers and to undertake other actions as the board and each non-executive director may feel are required in the best interests of the business of SPD.

The position has a remuneration of £6,000 per annum plus expenses (including travel)

Role and Responsibilities:  

The non-executive directors of SPD are expected to carry out the following:

Monitor company and executive activity
Contribute to the development of company strategy and operations
Provide objective and independent criticism on all existing and proposed company activities
Focus on board matters (and not stray into executive direction).
Bring a fresh perspective
Constructively challenge and monitor the management team

All directors and non-executive directors are expected to operate within and adhere to the appropriate requirements of Companies Act and within the boundaries of the intercompany agreement between SPD and its shareholder, the University.
