Research Programmes
Our programmes fit into three main areas:
Family and Life Course
- Advancing midwifery practice -The Midwifery Research Group draws together research strengths in understanding and theorising the physical, psychological and socio-cultural determinants of women's reproductive health. We provide a supportive and vibrant research culture for students and maternity care professionals desiring to complete postgraduate research training.
- CYP@Salford – Research with Children, young people and families - Improving the quality of life of children and siblings after acquired brain injury; working to enhance health and social care services for families; developing the practice of children’s nursing; and supporting partnership between families and professionals.
- End of life care - Developing practice towards the end of life.
Health and Social Inequality
- Citizenship and social exclusion - Using the concept of social citizenship our work explores the significant implications that social divisions, such as class, gender, age and ethnicity, may have on the welfare rights and responsibilities of citizens and marginalised groups e.g. migrants, Roma, homeless people.
- Health technologies and evidence - This programme of research supports the need for evidence to inform health and social care policy and practice, and the information and communication technologies that support evidence based practice.
- Public engagement in research and education - Working with service users and carers to prioritise, design, undertake and disseminate research to maximise its quality and impact.
- Supporting people with long-term conditions - As people require considerable support to self-manage and live life with a long-term condition, research that facilitates health and well being, extends knowledge and underpins practice is essential.
Health and Social Care Service Development
- Acute care - Our research team have extensive experience both in terms of clinical practice and research methods. We have excellent links within clinical practice and partner agencies. These include the British Heart Foundation, British Association for Nursing in Cardiovascular Care, the British Association for Day Surgery and many others. Our collective aim is to generate new evidence to support contemporary nursing practice in acute care settings.
- Education for practice and health (Health Care) - The education for practice and health research theme involves learning more about what we teach nurses and midwives and how that learning could and should be applied within professional practice and the development of evidence based education.
- Knowledge for professional practice (Social Work) - A research stream that generates new knowledge that when applied to practice improves the quality of social work.
- Mental wellbeing - Validating the reliability of mental health research.
