Biography

Dr Stephen Pugh is the Director of Pre qualifying social work at the University of Salford. He qualified as a social worker in 1987 from the University of Nottingham and his social work practice was exclusively with older people. He moved to the University in 1995.

As a gay man, Steve is passionately interested in issues related to older lesbians and gay men and in particular how statutory services respond to their needs. He undertook his PhD. at the Open University which explored how older lesbians and gay men developed a sense of themselves prior to 1967 and what impact ageing has had on their understanding of themselves.

Steve is the independent chair of Salford City Coucil's Adukt Safeguarding Board which reflects his other interest - safeguarding older people. Steve  is also a Trustee of Age UK Salford.
