Office Times

My office times vary, as I have links with my clinical placements out in the community.  However, unless I am away from the university, I access my voicemail and email on a daily basis.

Biography

I originally trained as a nurse, district nurse and health visitor as part of an integrated course Kings College Hospital in London during the ‘seventies.  I later went on to do a degree in Sociology and PGCE in the West Midlands. I have worked as a teacher in both Further and Higher Education since that time.  In-between having children, raising a family and living abroad, I have done a variety of jobs within education and community nursing.

Following a “Return to Nursing” and “Return to Practice” course I returned to Health Visiting for 4 ½ years prior to taking up a permanent post as a lecturer at the University of Salford. Since my appointment, I have been working as a full lecturer in adult nursing, as well as having a considerable involvement with the Non Medical Prescribing Course and Preparation for Mentorship Module.

I consider myself to have extensive knowledge and experience of working as a lecturer in Higher Education, and my portfolio has included a number of appointments as an external examiner (Rotherham College, Birmingham City University, University of Suffolk and currently UCLAN).

Most recently, I have taken time to undertake training in Employment Law and Health and Safety matters as part of my role as an elected trade union representative for UCU. In this position, I have been actively involved in case work and other trade union related duties. I have also been studying with Union Learning Fund a Diploma in Trade Union History.  I plan to undertake a Diploma in Trade Union Law, starting in September 2013. I have now been mandated to be  a Health and Safety Representative.

Teaching

All elements of pre and post qualifying nursing.  Non Medical Prescribing and Preparation for Mentorship. I currently run the Sexual Health Module for the Pre-qualifying Nurse Programme, and am a module member for the Public Health module Pre-qualifying.  I am actively involved in the support of student nurses in my role as personal teacher
