Biography

I joined the University of Salford in April 2000, as a new lecturer. My previous roles were in clinical practice. I achieved my PhD from the University of Salford in 2007: Friendships and the community of students: peer learning amongst a group of pre-registration student nurses and became a Senior lecturer in 2010.

Teaching

2011/12: Led the development of an innovative Graduate Diploma, together with specific International pathway within the MSc Nursing Programme. The Grad Dip acts as a bridging programme specifically designed for international students, helping them achieve the required IELTs score and or level six credits.
2009 to date: Programme Leader MSc Nursing (Research, Education, Practice, International). Led the development of the curriculum, modules and modular teams and took the programme through internal validation processes.
2009-2010: Member of curriculum development team creating a new MA  Nursing / RN Programme for pre-registration nursing. This programme enables graduates to pursue nursing careers. Act as member of the team delivering and evaluating the programme.
2000-2008: Base group facilitator (Facilitating Problem based learning).
2003: Took part in the evaluation of the Making a Difference / Fitness for Practice curriculum. Leading the evaluation of the clinical guide role.
2003-2006 Intake co-ordinator Diploma in Adult Nursing.
2006-2009 Intake co-ordinator BSc Nursing (Adult)
2009: Led the development of new masters level modules for the MSc programme.
2007-2008 Led the development of a Post Qualifying module in Managed Intermediate care using blended learning.

Research Interests

I am co-research theme leader of the Education for Practice and health theme group. Programme of research leading up to the Ref exercise has been developed.

I actively engage in research supervision, as first named and co-supervisor to several doctoral candidates. I regularly undertake internal assessment of candidates at progression points.
Personal research interests focus on issues in nurse education, teaching and learning.
