Biography
I joined the University of Salford full time in April 2003. I had previously held the post of Professional Development Leader at Salford Royal Hospitals NHS Trust from 1997- 2003. I held a joint appointment from 2002- April 2003 as a Lecturer Practitioner between Salford Royal Hospital & the University of Salford. My clinical experience was mainly in the field of Cardiology where I held a variety of nursing positions from staff nurse to senior charge nurse/manager within the Heart Care Unit. I have also worked in dermatology, oncology, respiratory medicine and general medicine.
Teaching
My academic interests focus on leadership and management, change in practice, professional development, quality initiatives, action learning and care of the cardiac patient. I teach on the undergraduate, post qualifying and taught postgraduate programmes, I supervise postgraduate students and I am currently the international lead for links with the University of Technology, Nicosia, Cyprus. I am also a University Link Lecturer (ULL) at Salford Royal covering 7 different clinical areas.
Research Interests
The focus for my MSc dissertation was to explore the impact (on nursing staff) of the Leading Empowered Organisations (LEO) programme and to evaluate the support offered and sustainability of the programme following its completion. I was previously an active member of the Learning Organisations Project Team. Funded by the Strategic Health Authority (approx £35,000) the project ran from Sept 2004-May 2005 I was also involved in an evaluation of the Coaching for Success Programme over at my link Trust: Salford Royal Hospitals NHS Trust.
