Biography

I joined the University of Salford in October 1998 having previously worked at the Centre for Health Information Quality, a national information service providing advice and support to self help groups and the NHS on producing high quality evidence based consumer information, and at the UK Clearing House on Health Outcomes.  I have served as Chair of Information for the Management of Healthcare, a charitable organisation committed to improving the provision of information in enhancing health and social care management and delivery.  I am Editor-in-Chief of the ISI listed Health Information and Libraries Journal.

Teaching

My academic interests focus on evidence based practice, information retrieval and the processes associated with writing for publication.  I contribute to the College ethics committee in quality assuring student’s research projects, teach on Masters in Leadership and Management programme and supervise postgraduate research students.

Research Interests

My professional background is in library and information science.  The focus of my research interest is on facilitating access to information.  Published information, whether in print or electronic format, is one of many forms of ‘evidence’ and refers to both the act of communicating information and the act or process of publishing.  My research explores the role of library and information workers as providers, consumers and producers of published information both within and outwith this professional grouping.  My full research profile can be found on the Salford Environment for Expertise and Knowledge (SEEK).
