Biography

I have a varied work history which has all involved working with people and providing a service of one form or another.

In 2001 I completed a Criminology & Sociology Degree leading to employment within Youth Justice.  For nearly five years I worked with young people subject to Court Orders within the community and the secure estate.  During this period I gained a Diploma in Social Work in 2004 & thoroughly enjoyed my time with the Youth Offending Team.  In 2006 I sought direct child protection experience with the Local Authority.  I gained experience via Duty, Child Protection, Child in Need & Looked After Children casework.  The roles also involved private law casework.  I have been a Practice Educator and mentored & supervised staff in practice.

I arrived at the University of Salford in early 2015 and hope to be able to share practice wisdom with Students’ as they progress in their studies.

Teaching

I am teaching on the Assessed Year in Employment (ASYE) Social Work programme, the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) for Social Work & the BA Social Work Degree.

I am also undertaking the Practice Tutor role for Level 5 Social Work students on placement and acting as Seminar Tutor.

I have also contributed to the development of a Reflective Supervision Skills training event & delivered this to a local Children’s Social Care service.

Research Interests

I am interested in the identification / management of risk and relationship based practice.  In particular the area of child sexual exploitation and child abuse are areas that I would like to focus on.  I am also interested in how the profession is perceived and what can be done to try to address this issue.  I would also like to build on the UoS links with partner agencies to explore research opportunities and share learning.
