Biography
I came into nursing after completing a degree in Philosophy and Politics at Warwick University. After completing the relevant educational courses I became both a registered adult nurse and a sick children’s nurse. Clinically most of my career was involved in nursing children with cancer. I am a member of the CYP@salford research team and currently programme leader for the MA nursing (RN).
I am a member of the editorial board for the Journal of Child Health Care and the international advisory board for Nurse Education In Practice. I am currently a core Member of the Research in Child Health (RiCH) network.
Teaching
I currently teach on the following modules:
- Exploring the context of nursing
- Understanding the professional practice of nursing
- Implementing nursing practice
- Evaluating nursing practice
- Developing Critical Practice in Nursing
- Applying the Critical practice of Nursing
- Legal, ethical and professional issues.
I also supervise research at master’s and doctoral level.
Research Interests
I research into a number of aspects related to children’s health and provision of care, in particular the impact of early intervention programmes.
I also have a interest in numeracy and literacy in nurses and student nurses.
