What is organised for students on commencement of placement?
Allocation of mentor, completion of interview, given orientation pack.
What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?
Mentor names displayed in work area, mentors have 998 or equivalent.
What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?
8.30am - 4.30pm
What patient care situations are available in this placement?
Palliative care and other nursing cares in patient homes daily clinic sessions provide extensive opportunities for dressing/ injections, catheter changes, ear syringing and other in clinic.
What nursing model is used for planning care?
Integrated Core Pathways, Roper, Logan and Tierney.
What core clinical skills can be learnt?
Holistic assessment, practice skills, dressing changes, injection, eye drops, care planning, evaluation.
What additional clinical skills can be learnt?
Therapeutic nurse/patient relationships chronic wound managements. Chronic disease management, venepuncture IV drugs. Palliative care, communication, wound care, leg ulcer treatment.
