About this placement
What is organised for students on commencement of placement?
Prior to commencement of placement your off duty will be confirmed and your mentor allocated. It is recommended that when you ring for your off duty you request a visit, to meet your mentor and be orientated to the unit prior to your placement. This may help you overcome any nervousness you have. A student pack will be given which you can take away and read, which explains the placement philosophy and spokes this placement can offer.
What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?
All students will be allocated a mentor prior to commencement of placement and they will be ready to welcome you on your first day.
What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?
07.30 - 15.30
12.30 - 20.30
20.00 - 08.00
Long Days : 07.30 - 20.30
What patient care situations are available in this placement?
CAU will enable you to participate in all aspects of personal care, we care for patients with varied health needs and co-morbidities. Included are patients who are different ages, different past medical history people with mental health problems eg.confusion and patients who are at the end of life. The care provided is quality driven; showing compassionate nature ensuring patient respect and dignity is priority .
What nursing model is used for planning care?
Roper, Logan and Tierney model.

Recording Observations (Blood Pressure, Heart Rate, Oxygen Saturations, Temperature)
Moving and Handling
Feeding a Patient
Toileting a Patient
Completing request cards
Food Diary Completion
What additional clinical skills can be learnt?
Observe ECHO, CT scans, Doppler scans, Ultrasound scans, Ascetic drains, Lumber puncture Catheterisation
