About this placement
What is organised for students on commencement of placement?
Students will meet their mentor, be orientated to the placement and will gain a brief overview of the structure of the department.
What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?
Students will be allocated a mentor prior to arrival.
What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?
9am - 5pm Monday to Friday.
Students must contact the unit on 0161 627 8335 if they are going to be late.
What patient care situations are available in this placement?
Caring for patients suffering from chest conditions, tuberculosis, cardiac conditions, diabetes, skin conditions, haematological conditions, lung cancer, gastroenterology, general medical conditions.
What nursing model is used for planning care?
Nursing models are not utilised - staff give individualised care.
What core clinical skills can be learnt?
Assisting with minor operations, assisting with injection clinic, urinalysis, blood pressure, observe blood tests and ECG.
What additional clinical skills can be learnt?
Observe: exercise tests, echoes, HEAF test and BCG, peak flows, inhaler techniques, lung function tests, nebulizer assessments.

What research and practice development activities are being undertaken?
Asthma audit, oxygen form audit, audit on admission and re-admissions.
