What is organised for students on commencement of placement?
Placement induction to include discussion of working times, spoke placements, student objectives, building induction
What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?
Mentors should spend 40% of the time with the student and have weekly meetings
What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?
The Medical Practice is open Monday - Friday
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday:- 08.00 - 18.30
Tuesday:- 07.00 - 18.30
Hours will be negotiated between the mentor and student
What patient care situations are available in this placement?
Life long illness both physical and psychological - diagnosis and ongoing treatment
Undifferentiated, undiagnosed presentations
Home visit - patient's own home, residential home or nursing home
What nursing model is used for planning care?
Not applicable as not secondary care
Care delivered is evidence based care taking into account local and national guidelines
What core clinical skills can be learnt?
Communication skills with patients and within a team
Patient examination to include basic observations, examination of all body systems
Immunisations - travel, childhood
Care of patients with long term conditions - diabetes, IHD, hypertension, asthma, COPD
What additional clinical skills can be learnt?
Care of the dying
Safeguarding - children and adults
