About this placement
What is organised for students on commencement of placement?
- Students will have an allocated mentor.
- They will have a booked service induction
- Induction and orientation handbook relevant to the ward.
- They will always be supervised.
- Student room available with articles relevant to thier placement
- Supervision, Team mentorship.
Please note students will rotate between Rockley House and Newlands.
What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?
Mentors are allocated prior to the student commencing their placement and where possible will be rostered on the same shift pattern as the student, we also advocate "Team mentorship"
The student will have initial assessment, and midpoint and final will be arranged at the initial interview.
What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?
What patient care situations are available in this placement?
Patients are encouraged to be independent with Activities of Daily Living Skills, Structured therapeutic week, accessing the local community and beyond dependant on Risk assessment.
Patients are encouraged and supported to manage their diagnosed mental illness via staged assessed medication regime, budget money, plan and independently prepare and cook their own meals, the staff aim to support the women with regards to social inclusion utilising public transport and local amenities.

Welcome to the Rockley House part of Edenfield Unit. Your placement is within the womens service!
Please report to the Nursing office on arrival and ensure you have valid student identification with you.
Uniform is not necessary however the dress code is smart casual, sensible footwear is recommended.
We aim to identify your learning objectives and place you in a nursing team within your first week. Should your identified mentor be off for any reason a temporary mentor will be identified prior to your arrival.
Our aim is to support all students in their learning and development and to support you in any area you may find challenging please feel free to discuss any issues you may have, and inform us of any areas you feel you excel.
There is a list on the wall in the nursing office where you can identify a lead for a particular area of your training. We utilise a team mentoring approach which we hope you will find helpful.
The ward team promote a structured therapeutic day for patients in order to promote recovery.
Any ideas you have will be well received. We look forward to meeting you.
