About this placement
What is organised for students on commencement of placement?
All students will be allocated a mentor/associate mentor prior to the commencement in practice. The student will receive a welcome pack and will receive a full orientation and induction during the first 48 hours.
Students are welcome to have a pre-visit to the service and partake in their induction prior to commencement in practice and time will be given in lieu (optional).
Please contact the placement no sooner than two weeks prior to commencement to arrange your shift pattern.
What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?
All Students are allocated a mentor or associate mentor to support them in practice, We can also accommodate third year final students with the support of a sign off mentor.
All mentor/associates and sign off mentors are updated on an annual basis as required by the NMC (2008) and are registered on the Live register for mentors held by the practice education Facilitators.
In the event of your allocated mentor being unavailable for annual leave or sickness alternative arrangements will be made to support your practice.
All qualified staff have the opportunity to study the preparation for mentorship module credited or non credited.
What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?
2pm - 10pm
Students are encouraged to work a mixture of early, late and night shifts which incorporate some weekend exposure to experience 24 hour care.
Students are expected to work at least 40% of their time with their mentor. Unsociable hours worked after 8pm can be accrued and subtracted from the students required number of hours for night duty.
What patient care situations are available in this placement?
Home Treatment is defined as a community based method of treating mental illness and/or psychological distress that focuses on providing intensive intervention and treatment in the least restrictive environment possible(normally in the service users home)
The service is provided for:
- Salford residents 16+
- People with severe mental illness, in particular schizophrenia, bi-polar affective disorder and those with severe depressive disorder.
- Those with acute psychiatric crisis of such severity, without the involvement of the Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Team hospitalisation would be necessary.

Students can access a variety of spokes placements which are highlighted in the student welcome pack and in a spoke folder in placement.
Students are expected to complete a spoke placement feedback sheet to identify what learning outcomes they want to achieve, what they learnt from the spoke experience and a discussion with their mentor of their experience and what further development opportunities would support their learning.
Students are not required to wear their Uniform but expected to dress smart casual and wear their ID badges at all times.
Students will be visiting clients in their own homes and students are expected to maintain a professional image of the Crisis Resolution Team Treatment Service at all times in and outside clinical areas.
Anybody in inappropriate dress will be sent home immediately on arrival to change.
You maybe supported by practice staff studying for the preparation for mentorship course, this is overseen by a qualified mentor and your documents will be countersigned by the mentor.
The Team are Unable to facilitate the Medicines management OSCE/PBA as learning outcomes cannot be achieved in this placement.
