The multi-award winning TV writer and producer who adapted The Office for American TV and co-created cartoon series King of the Hill will be giving invaluable tips on making a career in the comedy business at one of two free masterclasses hosted by the University of Salford next week.
As part of the BBC Salford Comedy Festival, and in partnership with BBC Writersroom, the University will welcome Greg Daniels to its MediaCityUK campus on Tuesday 18 March for the event from 11.00am-12.00noon. The audience will have the chance to ask him about his work on shows including The Simpsons, Seinfeld, Saturday Night Live and Parks and Recreation.
BBC Comedy Executive Producer Will Saunders and Producer Jon Aird will run an ‘Online Comedy for the YouTube Generation’ session from 1.00pm, sharing advice on what makes great short form comedy, how to stand out in the digital world and methods which the next generation of comedy creators are using to reach massive audiences.
At 7.45pm students from the University’s BA (Hons) Performance: Comedy Practices degree will perform a Comedy Showcase, featuring stand-up, sketches and trailers, with live music and refreshments from 7.15pm.
Lisa Moore, Pathway Leader for the Comedy Practices course at the University, said: “It's been an exciting time for comedy students at Salford. We've had support from some of the biggest names in the comedy industry, including former Salford students Peter Kay and Jason Manford.
“Working with BBC Writersroom gives our aspiring comedy writers fantastic opportunities to learn from some of the best in the business, and our Comedy Showcase will show the great array of talent we have here at Salford.”
All three free events will be held in the Digital Performance Lab at the University’s MediaCityUK building.
