Talk by Squidsoup artist Anthony Rowe

Thursday 1 January 1970 1.00am - Thursday 1 January 1970 1.00am

Squidsoup artist, Anthony Rowe, will talk about his art practice and Squidsoup's new artwork Aeolian Light. Following the talk there will be a drinks reception and an opportunity to be one of the first to experience the work.

A new and exclusively-commissioned light artwork for Quays Culture and the University of Salford, Aeolian Light, which takes its name from Aeolus, the Greek God of wind, is a bespoke creation for this unique location. Taking inspiration from The Quays’ notoriously windy environment, the lights on the artwork will flicker, pulsate and change colour in response to wind and human movement. The large-scale outdoor artwork is a 10m2 cube-like structure consisting of strands of lights (around 12,000 bulbs) which will be situated on the Plaza between The Lowry and the Lowry Outlet, from Thursday 18 December 2014 until Wednesday 7 January 2015.

Squidsoup is an internationally-based group of artists, researchers and designers working with digital and interactive media experiences. Their work is regularly shown at festivals, galleries and events around the world. Aeolian Light stems from Squidsoup’s on-going research into the Ocean of Light and its Submergence project, which explores the creative possibilities of using controllable 3D lights to create impressions of movement and presence in physical space.
