Ten University of Salford performance students will be reliving their first time on stage when they join forces with an internationally-renowned live artist for a unique show at The Lowry this week.
The second year students have spent the last four weeks working with writer and performer Michael Pinchbeck on Debut, a piece which aims to reflect their experiences of performing for the first time, exploring why some people feel the urge to take to the stage and how the participants dealt with their nerves, excitement and the inevitable opening night mistakes.
Organised by course leader Niki Woods in the University’s School of Arts & Media, the project has allowed the students to learn from and share ideas with Michael and to stage and perform their work at a professional venue in front of an audience of regular theatre goers, producers and critics.
Year 2 Performance student Sarah Hope said: “During our time with Michael I’ve learnt so much about the process of making theatre, and I now feel a lot more prepared for the big wide world of professional theatre. It’s also been fantastic to spend the week rehearsing in The Lowry Studios.”
Michael Pinchbeck said: “Working with Salford students has been a revelation. They are very enthusiastic and bring an energy into rehearsals that is a testament to them and the School of Arts & Media. I am really looking forward to presenting Debut.”
Debut will be performed in a double bill with Michael Pinchbeck’s work The Beginning on Friday 15 March from 8.00pm. Tickets cost £9.00/£7.00 and can be booked at http://www.thelowry.com/event/the-beginning-debut.
