New Head for the School of the Built Environment

The University has appointed distinguished Professor, Hisham Elkadi, to the role of Head of the School of the Built Environment (SoBE).

 

Professor Elkadi will take up his new post on 15 August 2014. He joins Salford from Deakin University, Australia, where currently holds the position of Chair and Head of the School of Architecture. Former positions include Head of the School of Architecture and Design at the University of Ulster, Programme Director for Architecture and Director of Postgraduate Studies at the University of Newcastle, Senior Lecturer at the University of Plymouth, Associate Professor at the University of Alexandria, and Research Associate at the University of Liverpool. 

Professor Elkadi is a global expert in urban ecology with extensive academic publications to his name and impressive research networks. He successfully led the Art and Architecture theme in a European Union FP6 Network of Excellence, and has attracted numerous other national and international grants, particularly in relation to mid-city regeneration and urban ecology.

An Honorary Fellow of University College London, a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and a Fellow of the Australia Institute of Building, Professor Elkadi champions capacity building for both community and professional bodies to engage in the field of architecture and the built environment and advises government bodies. He is committed to community outreach, having led city regeneration projects in Australia together with similar work in Belfast, Rome, and Jerusalem.

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Martin Hall, said: “I look forward to welcoming Professor Elkadi to the University. He brings a wealth of leadership experience to the role which will be a great asset in helping the University achieve its strategic ambitions.

Professor Elkadi, said: “I have visited Salford on several occasions and have been very impressed in particular with the work on Construction Informatics in the School and the priority areas outlined in the University’s new confident and outward-facing Strategic Plan. I am very much looking forward to taking up the role and contributing to the School’s further success as a world leader in the 21st century.”
