An interactive game based on the life of Alan Turing and virtual wind chimes are just two of the artworks on display at MediaCityUK from 17 January as part of an exhibition showcasing the talents of creative technology students at the University of Salford.

The MA Creative Technology Showcase will bring together the work of five finalist postgraduate students from the School of Arts & Media, giving them the opportunity to exhibit their innovative installations and design projects in the state-of-the -art surroundings of the Digital Performance Lab at the University’s MediaCityUK building.

Alongside The Turing Quest and the interactive digital wind-chimes of Spirit and Matter, exhibition visitors can also experience sound-controlled drawing machines; technology aimed at blind and visually-impaired people which reproduces the sensation of touching artefacts from Manchester Museum; and an installation which combines user comments with video generated from avant-garde images.

The MA Creative Technology course focuses on the creative employment of technology and explores the dissolving boundaries between new media, sound and visual arts, industrial design and computer science.

Paul Sermon, Professor of Creative Technology, explained: “We’re looking to produce new creative practice by encouraging diversity and innovation through creative thinking. The aim is to promote new and diverse professional career paths, with our students developing into unique and talented future employees in this changing creative industry sector.”

The MA Creative Technology Showcase will be open from 10.00am-4.30pm on Friday 18 and Monday 21-Wednesday 23 January at the University of Salford, MediaCityUK, Salford, M50 2HE. Admission is free.

A free preview evening will be held on Thursday 17 January from 5.30pm-8.30pm. To book a place at the preview, please register at http://creativetechnologyshowcase.eventbrite.co.uk.
