Thursday 1 January 1970 1.00am - Thursday 1 January 1970 1.00am

The BBC Philharmonic is spreading its wings to start a brand new classical concert series in the heart of Salford in partnership with the University of Salford, Salford City Council and Salford Community Leisure.

The new season is called Chamber Music Mondays at Peel. The concerts will take place monthly on Mondays at 5.45pm at Peel Hall on the University’s Peel Park Campus, with the first one starting on Monday, 28th September.

They will feature chamber ensembles formed from the BBC Philharmonic’s world class musicians and guest artists, performing a range of classical music, from well-known gems to new, exciting pieces.

The first concert will feature new music by Manchester-based composers, performed by the Vonnegut Collective – also known as BBC Philharmonic musicians Gemma Bass and Gary Farr.

The Vonnegut Collective will play a programme inspired by Peter Maxwell Davies’ Trumpet Sonata and John Casken’s Shadowed Pieces;

  • Graham South - Out of the Hat
  • Graham South - Re-Max
  • Tulls Rennie -  Shadows of Casken
  • Anton Hunter - No Meatballs

Entry to the concerts will be by donation on the door.

Proceeds from the events will support the new Salford Music Fund, aimed at supporting the continued development of music in Salford.

Details of future concerts will be released over the coming weeks.
