Clemens Wilhelm: “OMG, I HAVE TO TAKE A PICTURE OF THIS”

Clemens Wilhelm (b. Berlin, 1980) is a multimedia artist living in Berlin. He works mainly in video and photography. His works are conceptual and revolve around the ideas of society and identity.

His video SIMULACRA is being exhibited at the CFCCA from Wednesday 15 April until Saturday 7 June. http://www.cfcca.org.uk/

In this illustrated talk, which will feature extracts from SIMULACRA as well as from his other works READ ME, THE MOST PHOTOGRAPHED MAN IN BERLIN and the complete film of THE TOURIST, Wilhelm will discuss themes of identity and society through commenting on tourism and photography.

Wilhelm’s works are shown internationally in numerous institutions and festivals such as Loop Festival Barcelona, Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen, WRO Wroclaw, Stuttgarter Filmwinter, b-05 Montabaur & Künstlerhaus Bethanien. In 2014, he was awarded the First Prize of Now & After Video Art Festival Moscow for Peter is Dead. He was artist in residence at Organhaus Art Space Chongqing (CN), SIM Reykjavik (IS), Buitenwerkplaats Amsterdam (NL), Titanik Gallery/SUMU Turku (FI), LKV Trondheim (NO), and FUTURA Prague (CZ). In 2011, he founded the video art festival GREENER ON THE OTHER SIDE. In 2013, he co-founded the I SEE Video Art Festival and toured with it across China. He studied at HBK Braunschweig in the class of Candice Breitz ("Meisterschüler" 2009).
