Dr Penelope Phillips-Howard (Senior Lecturer, Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine) has specialised in tropical public health for over 25 years, formerly working on malaria at the London School of Tropical Medicine, WHO, CDC/Kenya Institute of Medical Research.
Her interest currently lies with other vulnerable groups within rural populations and their unmet needs. This seminar will use on-going experiences from public health research work in rural western Kenya, and adolescent reproductive health.
A three-armed randomised controlled pilot feasibility study will be described which examines schoolgirls' unmet needs, and whether reproductive health issues contribute towards school absenteeism and impacts on inequity and girls' life-chances.
