MA Programme in Translation will bear EU trademark
Wednesday 1 August 2012 12.02am
The School of Humanities, Languages and Social Sciences' MA Translating/Translating for International Business was awarded membership of the prestigious European Master's Translation Scheme in 2011.
Only members of the network are allowed to use the trademark logo as proof of their compliance with the EMT standards of quality in professional translator training.
The EMT logo, originally designed by staff from the European Commission Directorate for Translation (DGT) has now been successfully registered as an European trademark and is subject to intellectual property rules. The logo can now appear on the graduation certificates issued to students when they successfully complete their Master's studies in translation and also on the certificates of membership of the EMT network.
This important legal step is also a potent symbol for wider recognition of the translation profession.
