Bestselling band to star on student music programme

Tuesday 17 November 2015

BROADCAST, journalism and music students at Salford University are delivering their own 'music channel' with well-known bands appearing.

Quays News, run by students at Salford's MediaCity UK campus will be hosting chart-topping band The Hoosiers on Thursday (19 November).

Most well-known for their hit single ‘Goodbye Mr A’, The Hoosiers will be broadcast as part of Quays Sessions – a new weekly show broadcasting music performances from local and international acts.

On the show, they will perform Up to No Good from their fourth album The Secret Service. Salford based band Mr Heart will join the Hoosiers and perform two tracks from their 2015 EP Vessel. Presenter Francesca Scotrick Boyd will be interviewing both acts on the show.

Music industry experience

This is the second episode of the new series, after the pilot episode featured Rinse, a psychedelic four-piece, and Wolf River Harbour, a band consisting of past and present Salford students.

Quays Sessions is a programme presented and produced by students across the entire University. Mike Halligan is the Student and Series producer of the new series.

Mike said: “It’s been great to bring together so many students from across different courses and create a programme which we’re all so passionate about. The skills brought forward by each member of the team has made a cracking pilot episode.

"With the support of the technical staff at Media City and access to the industry standard studio facilities, I’m sure we’ll learn a lot by making Quays Sessions and develop it into a quality production.”

Episode 2 of Quays Sessions will be streamed via YouTube on Thursday 19th November at 1.30pm. See Episode 1 here.
