International Media Centre
The International Media Centre (IMC) is a dynamic space that provides a unique interface between education, research, industry and community.
We are based at MediaCityUK, Salford Quays alongside leading organisations including the BBC and ITV. As part of Media, Music and Performance at Salford, the IMC can draw on the creative talent of almost 100 staff and some 2100 students.
With over 20 years of alumni associated with the school, countless industry bodies, production companies, broadcasters, commissioning editors and prominent creative practitioners the IMC sits at the heart of our media engagement activity.
The four strands to the IMC:
- IMC Broadcast
- IMC Creative Content and Management
- IMC Events
- IMC Training
Crossing all our four strands are research, consultancy, partnerships and student placements. Contact the IMC if you have an interest in interacting with learning and discovery.
The International Media Centre has many functions, including a commercial web and digital development company based at MediaCityUK called EDinteractive and a creative showcase of student and graduate work called Creative Hive. Both EDinteractive and Creative Hive serve as a conduit between the University and the rest of the world and further support the four areas of the IMC.
IMC Broadcast
Covers activities like student contributions to Channel M, a regional broadcaster based in Manchester, IPTV broadcast of the best of student work, live online journalism news output, the peer reviewed online practice-led research publication, JMP Screenworks, and the broadcast and exhibition of student work internationally.
IMC Creative Content and Management
Concerns creative project development and production, including project development partnerships involving students and industry production companies, live student production briefs, a student incubation unit helping our most promising graduates develop their first professional projects and media archive management and exploitation.
IMC Events
Includes our highly successful Nations and Regions Media Conference, our involvement with festivals such as Exposures and our student showcases.
IMC Training
Involves our engagement with the BBC Academy and our a la carte or bespoke Continual Professional Development (CPD)courses, including the popular Production Guru.
