Advice on printing assignments

We advise that in order to cope with unexpected interruptions and delays in printing and its supporting services, work should be sent to a print-queue two days before the submission date for that assignment.
Some tips

  • Before printing your document select the File and Print Preview options to check how it looks before printing.
  • Make sure that you have selected the correct printer. You will typically have a choice of at least two printers - one of which is the more expensive colour printer.
  • ‘Follow You’ queues will have ‘Follow You’ in the name.
  • ‘Follow You’ queues will be visible on all student PCs

How do I pay for printing?

Library Services operate a pre-payment system for printing. You can obtain printer credit with:

  • E-payment
You can add credit online to your printing account if you have a valid debit/credit card. When you are on campus select the 'Credit Printing Account' desktop icon, or go directly to Printer payments, and login with your University of Salford network account.
The online system will request details of your debit/credit card and you can authorise a payment between the values £1 and £99. You are advised to check your balance before proceeding. The transaction should be processed in real time; confirmation received and amount credited to your printer credit account.
Watch our video or read our User Guide Electronic Payment For Printing FAQ [pdf] for further information on this service.
  • Cash
Self-service print credit kiosks are located at all of the library sites. Swipe your card over the kiosk card reader and when prompted then enter your notes/coins into the kiosk machine. Credit is transferred to your printer credit account. A receipt is printed for each transaction. Please ensure that you have the correct change for the kiosk as we cannot provide it for you. Please note that these machines do not give change and any unused Printing credit is not refundable.

You can check your print account balance at any time via a kiosk or the desktop icon.
