Who can use the Language Resource Centre (LRC)?
Access to the University of Salford LRC is open to students registered on approved programmes in Languages and members of staff of the School of Humanities, Languages and Social Sciences, together with other persons at the discretion of the LRC staff.

What are the LRC opening hours?
Term Time:
09.00 – 18.00 Monday to Thursday
09.00 – 16.00 Friday
Closed weekends.
Restricted hours during vacations.
The Library's computer room on the 5th floor of the Maxwell Building is open 24 hours a day.

What computer software programs are available?
For language learning material see the Language Programs information sheet. In addition, the following University standard software is available:

What should I do if I have a technical problem?
You should ask for help at the LRC Reception.
Can I use the computers in 901 and 902 when classes are in progress?
If you wish to use the computers in 901 and 902 whilst a class is in progress you must request permission from the lecturer at the start of the lesson and you must stay in the room until the end of the lesson without disrupting the class. Please be aware that software used for a class might disrupt your work.

Can I borrow anything from the LRC?
The material in the LRC is for reference use only.

Where can I find out what materials you have?
There are two print catalogues in the LRC. The Access database containing all items can be viewed on the School of Languages K: drive. K:\LRC\LRC Catalogue\LRC Catalogue Table.

Where can I find more specialist dictionaries?
For more specialist materials please refer to the University Library Catalogue.

Do you have any subscriptions to magazines and newspapers?
The University Library has subscriptions to a large number of English and foreign language journals, some of which can be accessed through the Electronic Resources icon on the desktop.

Which foreign television channels are available?
Seven foreign satellite channels (Arabic, French, German, Greek, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish) and five British channels are available at any one time. If you would like to view any other channel please ask at the LRC Reception.

Why is there no photocopier in the LRC?
Surveys show that photocopy machines are not widely used by language learners so the income generated would not pay for the maintenance costs. A scanner is available for use in the Open Access Computer Area.

Why is there no printer credit machine in the LRC?
The University Security Service has advised against the installation of a printer credit machine in the LRC.

Is there a room for group work?
Yes. You can book room 903 at the LRC Reception.
