Are your students struggling to find the information they need? Then they need information literacy

Information literacy is much wider than the acquisition of library skills (e.g. how to use a catalogue, how to locate a book, how to access an e-journal). The information literate person uses critical thinking to analyse and evaluate information for use in assignments, projects, etc.

Embedding information literacy into programmes and modules

Intended Learning Outcomes

A key objective of the University's Information Literacy Implementation Plan is to 'promote the concept of information literacy and the University’s role in its provision' by ensuring that Programme and Module Specification forms include information literacy within Intended Learning Outcomes as part of Academic Portfolio Review. While Associate Heads (Academic) will advise on how the LTEC requirements are to be implemented in each School, Programme leaders will be expected to complete the Information Literacy Intended Learning Outcomes template.

Further information on how to put these Intended Learning Outcomes into practice can also be found in the Information Literacy Strategy [pdf]
