Locating resources
You can use the SOLAR to locate the items you want to borrow, and to check if we have an electronic version of the item you want.
Where are the libraries?
There are three library sites on campus, catering mainly for different subject areas.
- Adelphi (Design, Music and Media)
- Allerton (Health and Visual Art)
- Clifford Whitworth (all other subjects, including the Law Collection).
You will need your University ID card to enter and leave the library, and to borrow items.
How do I check what resources are in stock?
You can use SOLAR to check the availability of items before you visit the library. You can access them via an icon on the desktop or, if off campus, from the Staff Channel.
Use SOLAR to search for:
- Books
- Journals
- Other items - e.g. videos and DVDs
- e-books - full text books online
- E-journals
- Journal articles on a particular topic and other online resources, including newspapers and specialist subject material
How many items can I borrow?
Staff can borrow up to 25 items for a normal loan period of 12 weeks, using our Self Service machines to issue and return items yourself. The standard fines apply if you return items late.
Avoid fines by renewing items:
- using the 'My Account' option on SOLAR
- or use the automated 24 hour telephone Service Desk on 0161 29)53444
If you find that the book or journal article that you want it not held by Salford then you can try our Document Delivery service.
Visit Services for more information on borrowing, renewing, and returning items, and other library services.
Can I visit other libraries in the UK?
The University of Salford is a member of various reciprocal library co-operative schemes. More information is listed at Visiting other libraries.
Visit NoWAL and SCONUL Access for more information on both schemes.
