Once your registration has been approved, you can request scanned copies of book chapters and journal articles.

  • Check SOLAR to ensure the item you are requested is held in Library stock.
  • Complete the scanning request form
  • Scanned material will be sent to your University email address.

If the item you require is not available from the Library, you will need to request the item using the Document Delivery service.

Document Delivery Requests (non-stock items)

If you require a specific journal article which the Library does not stock, we may be able to obtain a copy from the British Library. Please note: this is a chargeable service and each journal article will cost £2.50.

Copyright restrictions also apply. UK copyright law allows us to supply no more than one article from a single issue of a journal for an individual student.

Document Delivery will supply journal articles delivered in electronic format to your desktop, using the Secure Electronic Delivery (SED) service from the British Library. Not all journal articles will be available using this method. Where electronic is not available, a photocopy of the article will be posted to your home address.

Important:

  • Please do not request books or book chapters via Document Delivery, unless you are able to collect (and return) the item from the Library in person.
  • Please read the information on SED before submitting a request and ensure you understand the limitations of the service, including the software requirement for viewing your request.

Before sending a Document Delivery request:

  • Check SOLAR to ensure the required article is not available from the Library. Please note: The Library cannot obtain material via the document delivery service if it is held as part of our collection. If you submit a request for an item we hold in stock, we will not order the item, but you will still be charged a request fee.
  • Read the Important Points to Consider to ensure the SED service is suitable.

To request an article via Document Delivery:

Distance Learning students are advised to pay for Document Delivery requests at the point of purchase. If you have any queries about obtaining specific material via Document Delivery, or are unsure if the item you require is suitable, please contact the Document Delivery team at your Academic Support team.
